  • In your story “Portrait of a Rescue” how do you feel out the situation and interview to determine what you think Devin is going to allow you to ask?
  • When you write stories about such heavy and touchy subjects do you find yourself searching for the right/perfect words to use to from a sentence more than you would maybe just writing a normal sports story that didn’t have as much complexity and controversy?
  • Do you think your ability to write stories on subjects that carry such weight in emotion is a skill that makes you kind of unique for having?
  • Do you believe the rise of podcasts and how prominent they are becoming in the sports news world, allows you to talk about the subjects you talk about in an easier fashion? Or maybe make it easier for listeners to understand the importance of it?
  • When/How did you decide you wanted to write about such controversial and heavy weighted stories?

  • Honing in on the “Skaggs” story what is it like dealing with the DEA for information, and what kind of process goes into that?
  • What made you want to do investigative journalism work?
  • When writing a story like the “Skaggs” one and about the Los Angeles Angels, what compels you to just write smaller stories days apart on the same subject, instead of waiting and writing a longer story?
  • Do you see being a fill-in host on “Outside the Lines” is a completely different change of pace from your investigative writing, or do you think it is all kind of similar just on TV instead of writing?
  • How much do you think the investigative reporting at ESPN has changed over the years since you joined in 2007? And how has it changed the most?
